Laugh Clipper icon

Never miss the funniest moment again.

Laugh Clipper listens for laughter, cheering and screams while you play, and saves a Medal clip for you — or asks first.

Free and open source · Windows 10 & 11 · Works with Medal
A 'Laughter detected' popup springs open, Clip is pressed and it turns into 'Clip saved'

Everything a good clip needs

It runs quietly in your tray, never takes focus from your game, and only bothers you when something's actually funny.

😂

Hears more than laughs

Laughter, cheering, shouting, screaming or gasps — each with its own level and sources.

🎮

Only while you play

Pauses itself when no game is in front, and adds your Steam, Epic, Xbox and Riot games automatically.

✅

Knows it saved

Checks Medal really made the clip, and keeps a history of every one with stats.

🗣️

“Don’t clip”

Changed your mind? Say it while the popup is up. Speech stays on your PC — it works offline.

Bookmarks recordings

Recording a whole session in Medal? Laughs drop a bookmark instead of a separate clip.

⏱️

Longer laughs, longer clips

Uses Medal’s 60 s or 120 s clip when the laughing goes on, so the start isn’t cut off.

Asks first, or saves it for you

A little capsule pops up over your game. One click (or your Medal hotkey) and it's saved. With auto-save on, it waits until the laughing stops so the whole moment makes it in.

  • Never steals focus from your game
  • 👎 “Not funny” teaches it to be stricter
  • Optional chime for exclusive-fullscreen games

Tune it to your voice in a minute

Live meters show how loud each source is and how much it sounds like a laugh, with a marker for your recent peak. Or let Calibrate listen to your game and your laughs and pick the level for you.

Detection settings with live meters

Hears your mic, game and friends separately

Listen to your microphone and any of your PC's outputs at once. With Elgato Wave Link, every channel shows up on its own — listen to the game and voice chat, ignore your music.

Audio settings with a meter per source

Every clip, in one place

History lists what was heard, where, in which game and whether it saved — with totals, your best laugh, and one click to play the clip.

History page with stats

Up and running in a minute

A short setup guide walks you through it the first time.

Install it

Download the installer and run it. No admin rights needed, and it updates itself.

Match Medal

It reads your clip and bookmark hotkeys straight from Medal. You can also press them yourself.

Laugh once

Laugh for a few seconds and it suggests the right trigger level for your voice.

Questions

The short answers. More in the README.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free and open source under the MIT licence.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”.

The installer isn't code-signed yet. Click More info → Run anyway.

Smart App Control blocked it.

Smart App Control blocks every app that isn't code-signed, with no way around it. To use Laugh Clipper, turn it off in Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings. On most PCs it can't be turned back on without resetting Windows.

Does it record or upload my audio?

No. Audio is analysed on your PC a second at a time and thrown away. The speech model for “don't clip” runs offline too. The only thing it connects to is GitHub, to check for updates.

Do I need Medal?

Yes — Medal does the actual recording. Laugh Clipper presses Medal's hotkey for you at the right moment, and warns you if Medal isn't running.

The popup doesn't show over my game.

Windows doesn't let anything appear over exclusive-fullscreen games. Use borderless fullscreen, or turn on the notification sound.
